- Assets acquired throughout the course of the marriage are considered to be Marital Assets subject to Equitable Distribution
- Essentially, the court will divide these Assets equally between the parties
- If you received a gift or inheritance, they are considered to be a Separate Asset, and are not subject for Distribution
- These Assets can lose their identity of being separate, and can become a Marital Asset
