Buffalo Divorce Attorney Explains How Long It Takes to Get Divorced

It depends on the circumstances of each individual case. It’s not possible for an attorney to anticipate how long a case is going to take. As an experienced Buffalo Divorce Attorney, I could sit down with you, go over the financials, and determine whether or not it’s a typical type of situation. Ordinarily, we’re able to work out an agreement in which case you may be looking at two to three months, and possibly even six months.
If we can’t come to an accommodation with regard to how we’re going to divide the marital assets or maintenance issues, then we bring those issues to the Expedited Matrimonial section of the Supreme Court. That court will attempt to settle the case; 90% of the cases do settle by that stage. If not, we get a trail judge.
A trial judge’s job is to hear the case and make a decision. The parties take the stand, present evidence, and then the court renders decisions. We try to avoid that, like I said, 90% of the cases that does not happen.
