Child support in New York state is based upon not only the current income, but essentially the income that the spouse had the year prior. For instance, if your spouse received a large bonus in the prior year and you were not receiving child support during that period of time, it may be taken into account in determining how much child support you’re entitled to for the forthcoming year.
