What BAC Level Is Allowed while Driving?
I am often asked how much alcohol an individual can consume and safely drive a vehicle. The answer is none. If you are pulled over while driving a vehicle, they’re going to administer a Breathalyzer test right there on the site. It’s a pass/fail system. If it shows that you’ve had alcohol in your system, they’re going to arrest you after administering the field tests. Not until you get back to the station house are they actually going to offer you the right to take a Breathalyzer test.
The Breathalyzer test is very sensitive. .04%: Driving while Impaired. .08: Driving While Intoxicated. That’s only two or three drinks. How much can you safely have before driving a vehicle? The answer’s clearly none.
